Financial modeling not only tells us where a business has been through descriptive analytics but allows us to better understand where a business is going using predictive analytics and how to shape the outcome in alignment with the desired strategy through prescriptive analytics. Every model I build keeps in mind the importance of decision-making support utilizing sound logic, methodologies and quantification of outcomes.
The concept of continuous improvement was instilled in me at a very young age where I learned that no matter how well I did something, there was always an opportunity to get better. I have employed this throughout my career by continuously reviewing the processes that I have inherited or built myself to look for opportunities to automate, reduce waste and in some cases, a need to start over completely. This has allowed me to spend less time on running reporting and more time on analysis that drives value creation.
Finance plays a vital role in all businesses and that value can only be delivered upon when there are strong relationships across the organization. Long ago, I learned the value of great customer service which allows me to identify “needs” versus “wants,” prioritize competing requests and make the largest impact possible. Thus, I have continually created trusted partnerships that keeps Finance front of mind and involved in crucial decision making.
The last several years of my career have been focused on building and rebuilding financial reporting packages, budget processes and forecast methodologies. Though this, I have been able to deliver improved efficiency, accuracy and insights. This is the culmination of the areas of expertise I have already listed. My success in FP&A is built upon my ability to execute on those areas first.
